Today’s little bit of lovely: Martina Navratilova and Tracy Austin

Martina Navratilova, Tracy Austin, in Surprise, Arizona

Tennis champs Martina Navratilova and Tracy Austin were in town last night for the Surprise Tennis Championship matches.

I snapped this photo as they were taking questions from an audience of tennis enthusiasts at the event.

It was a thrill to meet them and watch them play last night: between them they hold 197 singles titles, although 167 of them are Martina’s.

Martina also holds the record for Singles Grand Slam titles with 18, (3 more than Serena Williams), the record for most singles titles (167) and the record for most doubles titles (177).

She’s won more single and doubles tournaments than any other woman in history !

And who can forget child phenom Tracy Austin when she burst onto the tennis scene at the ripe old age of 15 ?

They’re both incredible athletes, champions and female role models.

Color me humbled.

p.s. If you would like to see some of the male tennis greats in town, like say, John McEnroe, Jim Courier, Todd Martin and Michael Cheng, it’s not too late. Go to Surprise Tennis for tickets to tonight’s matches and yes, John McEnroe is just as entertaining on the court today as ever !

John McEnroe, Surprise Arizona

John McEnroe delights tennis fans in Surprise, by peeling off his shirt and tossing it to the crowd after beating Jim Courier in match play.
