Los Angeles Scarf, Emily & Ross

We’re in love with these stylish hand-illustrated silk scarves from fashion entrepreneurs Emily + Ross. Depicting city scenes in beautiful color combinations and inspired by vintage travel scarves, they’re wearable – or frame-worthy – works of art.

They’re designed by Emily McDowell, a writer and illustrator from Los Angeles and June Ross, a former ad agency Creative Director from San Francisco.

“Last spring, my brilliant friend June Ross, an open water swimmer and Bay Area resident, came to me with a great idea: she wanted me to draw her a scarf featuring San Francisco Bay, in the style of vintage travel scarves from the 40s and 50s. In the process of creating that scarf, the idea for Emily+Ross was born.”

“My love for you is foggy at best.”

Genius.

So far the women have created 3 limited edition scarves featuring San Francisco, Los Angeles and Palm Springs. They have taken to the enterpreneurial site, KickStarter, to help fund their fashion start-up with the capital they need to expand the line. They have plans to add more cities to the collection – Brooklyn is next! – and also offer framed prints, cotton tea towels and other home textiles in the line.

Palm Springs Scarf -Emily & Ross

“Our scarves are designed to celebrate places from a local’s perspective, with a nod to vintage style, but with a modern, irreverent sensibility,” designer Emily McDowell explains. “I’ve lived all over the country, and I’ve always had a fascination with the nuances and details that make each city unique. Not the touristy stuff, but the real, often-overlooked elements familiar to the people who actually live there: the kind of things that appeal to both residents and visitors alike.”

So, how can you snatch one of these up for yourself ?

Visit Emily+Ross on KickStarter, make a $100 donation and you’ll have one delivered before the holidays ! You can also buy signed digital prints to display on your walls; there are a variety of options to own of these beautiful vintage-inspired pieces, starting at $10 !

Raise your hand if you think we need a Scottsdale scarf !

My hand is raised. lol It could have Camelback mountain, the Fashion Square, Kierland Commons, golf courses, lady lounging in the sun. I actually like the San Francisco scarf the best. I’ve never been there but I have been to LA and Palm Springs. My suggestion is to make a Coronado/ San Diego scarf. It’s one of my favorite places in California. :)

Lindsay,
It’s so funny that you said that. I was totally daydreaming about what a Scottsdale scarf would look like and realized that mine would have shopping malls and boutiques ! ( I better stick to blogging ! )
Love the San Francisco scarf too ! And isn’t Coronado, like, a suburb of Phoenix ?!!

Thanks Karen for featuring our scarves and Kickstarter link! LOL, Coronado practically IS a suburb of Phoenix! Lots of ideas in the works here. – June Bug and Emily

June,
I featured them because they’re beautiful and original. I’ve seen many independent designers since I started the site and love to lend support to fresh and unique talent. I’m hoping my readers will visit the site and help you get closer to your goal with even a small donation or by purchasing one of your gorgeous silk scarves !
