Fashion books: 3 new fashionable reads you’ll love !

August 15, 2012

Monthly fashion magazines may fuel your fashion fire, but books are forever. Here are 3 we can’t wait to curl up with !

1. Tim Gunn’s Fashion Bible: The Fascinating History of Everything in Your Closet, by Ada Calhoun

Tim Gunn's Fashion Bible bookFashion guru Tim Gunn has a new book coming out in September that’s at the top of our must-read list. In it, he delves into the history of fashion and the items that reside in our closet, offering cultural tidbits about what we wear in his most entertaining manner. Chapters include: Belts: Friends to Soldiers and Vixens, Dress Shirts: Prudery and Puffery and of course, Capri Pants and Shorts: The Plague on our Nation.

Publisher’s Weekly says, “In addition to his fun and informative survey of the past, Gunn doles out sage advice for the present, with sidebars devoted to helping determine the proper bra fit, listing the various categories of shorts, and explaining the proper way to shop for pants. Numerous cultural tidbits, fantastic images, and sartorial wisdom from one of fashion’s most respected gurus make this a must-read for “everyone who gets dressed in the morning, not just an elite crew in Manhattan.”

Release date: September 11, 2012, $28 ( or available now on pre-order at Amazon for $16.46 ! )

2. Yayoi Kasama, Louis Vuitton

Yayoi Kusama book, coverAs part of their recent collaboration with Japanese artist, Yayoi Kasama , Louis Vuitton has released a book that is now available in LV stores or online. It’s a limited edition book, a future collectors item, and it documents the artist’s career and creative process. It includes contributions from renowned authors and curators, previously unpublished photos and reproductions of her original works.

I got a chance to thumb through it at the Louis Vuitton boutique in Scottsdale and the images are beautiful. She’s a pretty fascinating character: a performance artist, a sculptor and a painter. I’ve read that she currently lives in an insane asylum in Tokyo which she voluntarily checks in and out of to create her art !

Published by Rizzoli, $85.
