False Eyelashes for Dummies: a tutorial

False eyelashes for Dummies

She told me it was easy. She gave me detailed instructions. And yet, it wasn’t. So here it is, ladies, the product you need to apply false eyelashes without feeling like a spaz. Honestly, who has the time or patience to spend putting these things on ?

I mean, besides Adele ?

Adele's eyelashes are epic

And anyway, she’s got people.

I tried following the instructions. I was told to put my makeup on first, including 1 coat of mascara and eyeliner so the eyelashes would blend right in after I applied them.

It was a hot mess. I got glue all over the place. Hellooo; shouldn’t the glue come with a little brush wand like liquid eyeliner ? No, you’re supposed to draw a microscopic little line along the top of the lashes in just the perfect amount, let it dry for 30 seconds or so and then just press it on.

Whatevs. I accidentally glued the lashes together and they were pointing in different directions and all gobbed up with glue. They looked like the Creature from the Black Lagoon before I even attempted to put them on.

Creature from the Black Lagoon

Curse you, tiny glue bottle with no applicator.

So here’s my advice. Say no to glue.

Use these instead.

Revlon Fantasy Lengths false eyelashes

Revlon Fantasy Lashes with self-adhesive. Way easier. They’re sticky enough to go on over your eyeliner and you can reposition them a few times till you get them where you want them. I had removed all my eyeliner and mascara from one eye in sheer frustration, so I applied these both with and without makeup on. It works both ways.

I like them also because they felt light and I wore them all day and forgot I had them on. You can remove them easily; you’re supposed to use oil-based makeup remover, but I’m lame and don’t have any, so I just used a little Chanel remover from a sample I had sitting around and a cotton pad and they came right off.

And from the girl who hates to post pics of herself, I even took one to show you.

Alert the media.

Revlon False Eyelashes

Disclaimer: I photoshopped the crap out of that. I spent more time removing my wrinkles in editing than it took me to apply the lashes. (You’re welcome, Revlon for that soul-baring product testimonial.)

Anywho, you can buy Revlon Fantasy Lashes on Revlon.com right now for 4.99 or find them at your local drugstore.

p.s. A magnifying mirror would have been awesome to have; I banned those when I turned 40 and am now re-thinking it. Ahhh, the price of vanity…

Woo! Congrats on figuring it out :)
I’ve tried the self adhesive ones too and am not good at those either, haha. Next up, individual lashes…I am LOVING how those look! Thanks for the laugh.

Lovely Marlene,
I don’t think you don’t need false eyelashes at all; you’re young and beautiful ! I felt so much better after you tweeted that you were frustrated by the falsies too. Someone needs to open an eyelash bar in Scottsdale…

Great tutorial. I’m definitely in the spaz club when it comes to putting those thing on. I’m even worse when it comes to taking them off. TOTALLY creeps me out.

Just sayin.

Terrie,
I’m not sure what creeps you out about taking them off, but that just made me laugh hysterically !
