Robert Black, 1e

Local fashion icon Robert Black gave the Phoenix Fashion Week crowd an ample serving of attitude last night with his lively collection of western attire.

Lots of swing and bling – just how we like it here in Scottsdale – with desert-inspired colors and imagery that took this western collection to a whole ‘nother level.

It’s not easy to pull this off, and while he’s known as a vintage connoisseur, Mr. Black dazzled us with pieces tailor-made for the well dressed Scottsdalite. ( I just made that word up. )

Hold on, I’m on a roll.

I loved the swingy, full skirts, boosted by ruffles and what looked like petticoats from days of yore.

With sparkly gold jackets ? Yes, please.

File these looks under: Fun-To-Wear.

All you need is a good pair of poodle shoes and you’re good to go at the Scottsdale bars. ( Do not cue that horrific song – “At the Scottsdale bars.” )  Too late.

You could get your guy some blingy cowboy boots -  in case a bar brawl breaks out, he can defend your honor.

There were other looks that were more subdued, for the bling averse. ( I’m living proof that blogging does not require proper English. )

And here’s my favorite piece…this cape took my breath away.

It gave me Fashion Super Powers that allowed me to stay up past midnight so I’m ordering it immediately.

Cuz there’s so much more fashion to come at Phoenix Fashion Week, since last night was the first “official” night. Do stay tuned for more of my scintillating commentary.

p.s. Next up, is a killer collection from Project Runway’s Bradon McDonald. Here’s a little sneak peek just for you !

The Fashionably Pink Fashion Show always kicks off Phoenix Fashion Week with a show that celebrates life. I love this show because it’s energetic and happy – the real stars are breast cancer survivors and the most important thing they’re wearing is their joy to be alive !

Fashionably Pink, 8e

This year, Phoenix Fashion Week partnered with checkforalump.com to help raise funds for women with breast cancer; things like wigs and low cost mammograms are essential to breast cancer patients struggling to survive and beat the disease with dignity and grace. It’s not easy.

Many women told their stories of the fight not just to survive, but thrive – and to be there to watch their kids grow up.

So when these survivors walk the runway, we get to see smiles like this…

We get to watch them dance.

And we get to high five that they’re alive !

Local Phoenix celebs support these women with runway revelry.

Phil Westbrooks, Fashionably Pink

That’s Phil Westbrooks, former Vice Mayor, getting jiggy with it !

Beauty Queens glide down the runway.

Miss Arizona, Fashionably Pink

Rachel Kasang, Miss Arizona, USA.

Many Phoenix television and radio personalities help shine a light on this important cause.

Catherine Anaya, Fashionably Pink

Catherine Anaya looks stunning – as always.

Kyle Unfug, Fashionably Pink

Of course, JohnJay likes to make a splash, so this year, Phoenix Fashion Week decided to give him a pool in which to do so. He did not pass up the opportunity…

Apparently the water was fine ! Ha !

Phoenix Fashion Week’s Fashionably Pink show is a great reminder that we’re all able to support our community in many different ways – maybe it’s donating time or money, runway fashion, or maybe just giving media coverage to charities that support women in need. Each and every one of these survivors talked about the support they received and how integral it was to their survival. It’s cool we’re able to make a real difference in someone’s life by supporting this event.

I’ll be posting more photos on FaceBook later, but I’d like to leave you with my favorite photo from last night.

It’s this one – breast cancer survivor Angela Harris, walking the runway holding hands with her daughter, Courtney. Their faces say it all.
