6 things we love about New York, London, Milan, Paris, Phoenix Fashion Week !

September 30, 2012

When Spring Fashion week kicks off in New York in September, it’s only the beginning of a month of furious, fabulous fashion from the best in the biz and it’s accessible to all. We’re watching Chanel on the cell, Lanvin on our laptops, and Pucci on our pads. It’s a brave new world and technology rules !

Here’s 6 things we love about Fashion Weeks all over the world…

1. The details page on Style.com

Lanvin, Spring 2013

Without the details page, you would never be able to see the killer shoes or the hot new handbags coming down the runway and you would never know that this…

Bottega Veneta, Spring 2013

actually looks like this… a marvel of construction, fabric and design.

2. The imaginative makeup

Makeup by Pat McGrath for DiorMakeup Artist Pat McGrath created this look for the Christian Dior couture show with pink Swarovski crystals.

3. The outrageous

The designers that push the envelope, and there are many, provide some fine entertainment along the way. This is supermodel Karlie Kloss, dressed as Boy George in Jean Paul Gaultier’s spring show.

4. The catfights…

Oscar de la Renta's reply to Cathy Horyn

Every year, there’s always some sort of drama unfolding that gets elevated to the public eye. At NYFW this year, Cathy Horyn from the NY Times called Oscar de la Renta a hot dog in her review, saying, “Mr. de la Renta is far more a hot dog than an éminence grise of American fashion.”

(I had to look up eminence grise: it means “a person who wields power and influence unofficially or behind the scenes.”)

Mr. de la Renta responded with a full page ad in her employer’s paper, the NY Times, saying “If you have the right to call me a hot dog, why do I not have the right to call you a stale, 3-day old hamburger ?”

That’s some good stuff right there; way better than any of the “Real ” Housewives !

5. Front row seats from your kitchen table while you’re multi-tasking !

Pot roast

Technology now makes it possible for anyone to watch the best fashion in the world come down the runway in real time. Plus, you can do your laundry and cook a pot roast as you’re watching – while everyone who’s actually there is tweeting about the show delays and how hot it is because there’s no air conditioning !

6. Phoenix Fashion Week starts right when Paris Fashion Week wraps up…

Now that we’re all worked up into a fashion frenzy from 4 weeks of shows, we get to see our own Phoenix Fashion Week, live and in person at Talking Stick Resort, outside, at night under the stars, with all our crazy fashion freak friends.  And 3 cheers for our own Blogger Lounge, cuz that makes us feel special and p.s. you don’t get that in New York !
